The A1 Grand Prix series kicked off at Brands Hatch on Sunday with victory for Team Brazil's Nelson Piquet Jr ahead of France's Alexandre Premat and New Zealand racer Matt Halliday. Australia (Will Power), Britain (Robbie Kerr) and Mexico (Salvador Duran completed the top six).

The Brazilian Grand Prix in 2006 is going to be held on November 5 and will be the World Championship decider. It is not clear how the rest of the calendar will change but it seems that the teams are only willing to agree to 19 dates if there are bigger gaps between the races.

Kimi Raikkonen is the man of the moment in Formula 1. He looks supremely confident. He seems able to handle all the pressure, including some lurid stories which have been doing the rounds about his private life and his relationship with the McLaren team. But Kimi does not care.

While Jacques Villeneuve remains confident that he will hold on to one of the two BMW drives next year, there are rumours in F1 circles that Alexander Wurz may be pushing hard for the job.
